Whatever Became of Reese Hopkins?

Since last fall (2008), I have been feverishly following the Reese Hopkins story. Reese was a successful radio talk show host in at Entercom’s Boston affiliate WRKO. He was a casualty of cutbacks and then of allegations of unspeakable acts against a child.

One cannot claim to know someone personally that they hear for two hours each morning. However, having heard Mr. Hopkins’ show and listened to his points of view, it’s hard to fathom that this is the kind of man that would do this kind of thing.

Apparently, maintaining his innocence, Mr. Hopkins still sits in a jail cell having been extradited from Boston to NYC. Now, almost a year later, Reese still has not had a trial. He does not have a proper defense.  Still, even more shocking is the character of his accuser. There is no physical evidence and these allegations have come up before only to be proven unfounded.

Assuming the innocence of Mr. Hopkins, what becomes of his career and his life after all is said and done? We all know that just because you have been found not guilty of a crime, that does not mean you will be perceived as innocent. What will happen to the accuser? I suspect not much in the way of the media as she is a minor and will be protected from media harassment for the time being. What happens to the Hopkins family? It would seem that there are no real winners in this case.

Assuming his guilt, what becomes of this child?  How much therapy will she need?  Will she be doomed to repeat the behavior as an adult?
